Journals...favorite ones?

From: jbean1164 (jbean64@sbcglobal.net) | Date: 2004-09-19 00:25:31 UTC
I have been looking at journals to keep in my LB bag, and am
wondering what people use? I have seen a nice sketchbook, hardbound,
black, 60# paper, and larger than the 3.5 x 5, more like a notebook.
Looks durable and long lasting. I think the wire bound ones, papers
can rip after much use. What I'd love is one that has a few lines on
the bottom for notes. Similar to stroy paper for young children, with
space on top for illustrations and lines on the bottom for the story.

Just wondering what others use?

I use a black hard cover art journal (approx. 5'' x 7'') which has a spiral
notebook binding. That way, I can lay it flat or double it back when stamping.
I like this size because it fits into the small section of my backpack.

Hi jbean,

I usually just take a blank book that I buy at big
lots for 99 cents. I stamp into that book and when I
get home i place them in my journal. I've had a few
times where the stamps don't come out the 1st time,
since i like a clean neat journal .... I place them in
with scrapookers tape.

Being a scrapbooker originally, I can appreciate the neat/clean look.

However, also as a scrapbooker there is much to be said for the "getting there" aspect of finding the box. We stamp right on the clues sheet, and also any other notes that need to be made we put that right on the clues sheet as well. All our pages we keep in a 3-ring binder that has a clear cover that the clues sheet can be slipped into and easily read while doing the clues.

I do have a small scrapbook that never made it to scrapbookhood, that we're using as an exchange book...sadly it only has 2 personal stamps in it, but we're hopeful! : )

Just my opinions,
Doglvrs

I've been using a plain little 3x5 sketchbook up till now. Now that it's
almost full, I'm looking around for what to use next. I saw and almost bought
some really nice blank page books while I was on vacation in Maine this
summer. Now I'm kicking myself, because they're exactly what I want, and now I'm a
couple of thousand miles away from them!

So let your sidekicks in Maine know what they were and maybe we can get them to you!

I do not have a favorite logbook but a word of warning after
having one stolen with our trunk and then having the replacment fly
of the back of the returned trunk just make sure you keep track of
where you keep it. We never kept track of how many we had found but
estimated at about 80 The tragic lost kept us out of letterboxing
for a while but now are back. If you can figure out a way to carry
just pages with you and leave the main book at home that would be
the safest bet. (although i still carry the whole book)

I was given a blank book a couple of years prior to my discovering
letterboxing, and I never used it because I didn't have anything
"cool" enough to put in to match the book. Of course, letterboxing is
cool enough for the book. :)

Ok I'll finally jump in. I use a basic hard bound black sketch book. It has
wonderful thick papers. Not to long after I first started letterboxing a
letterboxer in the area showed me her beautiful leather cover she had. It
was from a local leather working place, intended to be a bible cover. She
had wood burned her signature image on the front. The art sketch book slips
right in, is protected from the elements, and you have a work of art on the
cover. At the Passport to Letterboxing I was fortunate enough to win an
Oberon journal. It is an online company that has all kinds of leather items,
one line of which is GORGEOUS leather covers. I have the celtic design,
which I adore. It makes my journal a work of art, a thing of beauty, and
being leather is practical for being in the PNW (mud, mud mud).

For kids letterboxing journals I found a wonderful site called Bare Books.
They make professional quality hard bound books with blank covers and blank
pages. The pages are heavy enough that the ink is not going to bleed through
and the covers are blank so the kids can decorate them. I don't use them for
me because they don't have enough pages. (64) but they're great for kids and
cheap enough to buy lots and let them decorage a new one every month (1.25 a
piece)

Just my two cents worth,
Maiden
